All my sculptural work is made from reclaimed objects and materials that I prefer to work with because I love things with a (hi)story. I feel it gives them soul and that touches and inspires me.
The dolls featured in a lot of my work are parts of original dolls from the 19th/early 20th century. The first scruffy old head caught my eye in a junk shop a long time ago and touched my heart. There is something about these faces that particularly moves me. They have dignity, a timeless beauty. Heads, bodies and limbs often cracked and scuffed but the little faces unimpressed by what they’ve been through. A hundred years of history looking back at me reminding me of my own past, my own bruises and broken pieces that make me who I am. They seem like forgotten treasures that I’m excited to pick up and bring back to life.
